CAIRL Images

What a matched photo is, how private and public sharing are built to work, what the claim does not cover, and current availability.

CAIRL Images

CAIRL Images is built to compare a photo of yourself with the verified liveness reference from your identity verification and, if it matches, give the photo the Photo matched mark. When CAIRL offers it, you can share the matched photo with a business you belong to through a private, time-limited link, and you can revoke the match so the photo stops being delivered. CAIRL Images is not yet available; this page describes how it is built to work and what it does and does not claim.

What CAIRL Images is

CAIRL Images accepts a photo from a person who has completed identity verification with CAIRL and compares it with the liveness reference from that person's most recent successful verification. If that verification is no longer recent, CAIRL asks for a short liveness check first; no document is needed.

When the comparison succeeds, CAIRL marks the photo Photo matched with the provenance Matched by CAIRL.

The claim is narrow by design: it says that this exact photo matched the verified liveness reference of the person who submitted it, and nothing more.

How it is built to work

When CAIRL offers it, matching works like this:

  1. You upload a photo to your Vault and choose it for matching.
  2. CAIRL normalizes the photo, removes its embedded metadata, and compares it with your verified liveness reference.
  3. If the comparison succeeds, the photo becomes your active matched image and carries the Photo matched mark.
  4. You can create a private, time-limited link to the matched photo for a business you belong to in CAIRL. You choose the business, and if you belong to none, no private link is issued. CAIRL checks the link on every view, and it expires on its own.
  5. You can revoke the matched image from your Vault. Revocation takes effect on the next request, so a revoked photo stops being delivered through its links.

The comparison score and the underlying evidence stay inside CAIRL; they are not part of what anyone who views the photo receives.

Public sharing and the CAIRL Image Credential

When CAIRL offers it, you can separately authorize one matched photo for public sharing. Authorizing is an explicit step taken under the statement "The person pictured authorized this image for public sharing."

The resulting page is called a CAIRL Image Credential. Its link is a public locator, not a secret: anyone who has it can view and save the photo while the authorization is active.

The credential page shows the photo, the Photo matched claim with its verification code, the authorization statement, and when the authorization was issued. The comparison score and the underlying evidence are not shown.

You can withdraw the authorization. Withdrawal stops delivery on the next request, and the page at the same link then says only that the credential is no longer active and returns no photo.

A snapshot that someone saved earlier is a point-in-time copy and cannot reflect a later withdrawal.

What it does not do

A matched photo does not prove who you are. The claim is only that the photo matched the verified liveness reference of the person who submitted it.

CAIRL Images does not state that a photo is authentic, that you hold the rights to it, or that your authorization continues after you shared it. It does not determine whether a photo is synthetic, edited, or someone else's property.

The Photo matched mark is not the CAIRL Partner Trust Badge, and it makes no statement about any service that displays the photo.

The Photo matched mark that CAIRL places on a delivered photo is a label, not a protection: CAIRL Images does not prevent screenshots or copies, and a copy that leaves CAIRL cannot be updated or withdrawn by CAIRL afterward.

Current availability

If you open the Images area of Vault in your CAIRL account today, it shows that Images is not available on your account yet.

CAIRL has made no pricing decision for CAIRL Images, and this page states no price.
